How many men does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Three! Just kidding! It was definitely a task for Shawn and our dads to get that lightbulb in. The light sits atop a very tall light pole. They had to dig a trench around the pole, then lower the pole far enough down that they can reach the top with a ladder sitting in the bed of the truck. Whew! It was definitely a sight to see! Now, though, we can watch the deer from all over the yard. The other light we have out front doesn't have as large of a range. At any rate, the deer definitely aren't afraid of us. There have been quite a few occasions I have gotten fairly close to them. Anyways, the light was a success!

Welcome Joseph "Jobi" Bishop Potin!

Shawn and I have new names! We are now Uncle Shawn and Aunt BB to our first nephew! Jobi was born to Chris and Jean Anne Potin on November 27th at 12:40 p.m. He was 8 lbs. 1 oz. and 21 inches long! Mommy and Daddy are doing great! The grandparents are absolutely beside themselves!

He's sooo sweet!

New Furniture!!

We got our new furniture this morning...about 2 weeks earlier than expected, and quite an upgrade from what we were working with before. It looks kind of like leather, but is actually micro-fiber...and its "dog proof", or so they say. We weren't sure quite how to set it all up, but I think we're going to leave it like this for a while.

Happy Halloween!

I think our Halloween costumes speak for themselves, but I was a sailor and Shawn was an inmate.

Our close friends Christa and Mike made the perfect pirates! Argh!

Fall Festivities

Fall is one of our favorite times of the year! It has definitely been keeping us busy. One of my new daily habits when I get home is picking pecans. There are a ton out there! Shawn has been tromping out in the woods when the weather and his schedule permits! Aside from playing outside, we have even hit a Saints game! Who 'dat! Nothing compares to a Saints game...especially when they win! Needless to say, we gave the Falcons a run for their money!

Trick or dog- treat?

Needless to say, Gus wasn't too thrilled with my Halloween costume selection.

One month post-wedding

Well, the wedding has come and gone. I can't believe that it is over. There was a lot of build-up for it to be over so quickly. We were so blessed to have our families and friends from all over join us in our special day. Of course, there were a few kinks in the parade. It started to rain as the wedding party began walking out, but luckily no one melted. Also, towards the middle of the ceremony a train rolled through downtown. It wouldn't have been our wedding if there weren't a few glitches. It was perfect.

As most of you know, we went to Las Vegas for our honeymoon. It was unbelievable. It was definitely a culture shock coming from Mississippi. We stayed at the MGM Grand. There was an actual lion's den in our hotel. I think we watched the lions more than anything else. We had to stop and watch them at least twice a day! We also saw Cirque de Soleil and David Copperfield. Both shows were unbelievable! As soon as we get internet hooked up at the house, we'll post some wedding and honeymoon pictures.

Shower, flowers & invites...oh my!

Sorry for the lagging posts! It's beginning to get very hectic! Only one month to go!

The last couple of weekends have been a whirlwind! First of all, Mrs. Donna Reeves and Mrs. Sonya Gatlin threw the cutest lingerie shower on June 23rd. I got tons of cute "outfits," ate wonderful food and had a great time with friends as family! Thanks ladies!

Also, invitations have gone out, premarital counseling is being attended and thank you notes are being mailed. Unfortunately, I missed one of my showers. The ladies of Westminster Presbyterian hosted an outstanding shower, I hear. It turns out I had the Roto virus. It was terrible. I finally got my appetite back on Tuesday. Blah.

Shawn went on his "Bachelor Weekend" this past weekend. They golfed, we to the boats, cooked out and tried their luck at playing cards. That's all I wanna know!

First wedding shower

The first wedding shower went off without a hitch. It was given by Mrs. Gail Parkerson ("my second mom") at her house. We all had a great time and the food was wonderful. Everyone couldn't quit raving about Mrs. Gail's house. We also played a funny memory game and managed to come up with and "Ode to Betsy" poem. It was too cute. We received tons of great gifts and I was able to catch up with a lot of people I don't see too often. I don't really understand why I was so nervous about the shower. I barely slept the night before and even got myself all worked up while I was getting ready that day. I think I might need to work on some breathing techniques before the "Big Day" if I got that worked up before a shower! All and all, the shower was just perfect! Thanks again Mrs. Gail!

Viva Las Vegas!

No....it's not what you think. We didn't decide to run to Vegas and elope. Actually, we finally booked our honeymoon and we're headed out West...to Vegas, that is. We are planning on leaving the Sunday after the wedding and returning late Thursday night. We plan on seeing a Cirque du Soleil show. They are the super-flexible acrobats that put on an amazing show...well, so we hear! We will be staying at MGM. A lot of people have told us really good things about MGM, so we are really looking forward to it. Shawn says he plans on hitting the casinos while I hit the spa or lay out at the pool. I'd like to put my luck to the test and hit the casinos myself. Regardless, we are very excited about the trip and can cross one more thing off our list of "things to do."

Potins meet McDaniels

Our parents finally met yesterday. My parents, also, got to meet Shawn's grandparents, Lauren, and John (Shawn's sister and brother-in-law). Everything went absolutely wonderful and everyone enjoyed themselves. There was enough food to feed an army. We ate a Boston butt, potato salad, baked beans, sausage, chicken and artichoke dip, corn casserole, "Baskin Robbins Pie," and pecan pie. It was all wonderful! It's a shame it took so long for all of them to meet....they really hit it off! Yay!

Less than three months to go!

It's now official the wedding party will be clothed. As of today, the bridesmaids have all been fitted for their dresses and shoes. Last week, Shawn and I picked out the tuxes. For being my first time in a tux shop, I think I did pretty well. I can definitely say that the groom sure has it easier than the bride when it comes to picking out their wedding day attire...geez.

Our big project for this week is finalizing the invitations. The wording on the invites isn't really the hard part....who knew that picking out a font/style could be so irritating!

The biggest event of the week, though, is on Saturday! My parents and Shawn's parents finally get to meet. You'd think they might have already met throughout our four years together, but it never happened until now! We will be having lunch at his parent's house. It should be fun! They're actually a lot alike. We'll keep you posted!

Bridesmaid dresses

This weekend, two of the four bridemaids were able to meet my mom and I at David's Bridal for their first fitting of bridesmaids dresses. They are so cute! It should be interesting as to how the dress is going to fit for Jean Anne, seeing as how she will be six months pregnant at the wedding!

Anyways, my best friend Debbie and her husband Stephen were able to come in from Gulfport to visit for the weekend, also. It was nice to hang out again. We were ever able to bless the End Zone with our presence later that night!

Shawn should be going sometime this week to pick out the tuxes for the guys. We have some ideas, just nothing too snazzy!

Starting out

This blog is our first attempt at "blogging," so bear with us. We are hoping to jot down our journey though our engagement and whatever holds for us after our "I do's." This should be fun!

Anyways, Shawn and I got engaged on New Year's Eve 2006 in New Orleans. We were walking down the boardwalk on the river when he sat me down on a park bench. Personally, I was ready to hit Bourbon Street, but he had different intentions. He got down on one knee and proposed. It was so sweet...and definitely unexpected! So, for the past four months, it has been non-stop planning. The planning has been fun, especially since I love checklists, to do lists, and all of that organizing stuff. I guess I'm weird like that, but it sure has helped!
